Burlington Schools Win National Recognition for Energy Efficiency

Champlain Elementary School, C.P. Smith Elementary School, J.J. Flynn Elementary School and The Sustainability Academy at Lawrence Barnes have been named Vermont ENERGY STAR Schools. This achievement signifies that each school's efficiency is in the top 25% of schools in the Country and that it meets stringent U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards for healthy ventilation, year-round comfort and lighting quality.

These schools will be recognized at a public award ceremony in Montpelier on February 20 along with 20 other Vermont schools that have achieved ENERGY STAR designation this year. The ceremony will celebrate the continued success of Project Green School, an initiative that aims to put all Vermont schools on the path toward ENERGY STAR designation by 2020.

A recent report from the Burlington Electric Department of the last two years of BSD efficiency upgrade project costs, incentives and savings showed a large increase from 2012 to 2013.

Burlington School District Chooses Projectmates Construction Management Software

Systemates, Inc. today announced that Burlington School District, the largest district in Vermont, will leverage Projectmates construction project management software for its annual bond program that includes several critical maintenance projects, ranging from updating fire alarm systems and electrical systems to improving energy efficiency and physical accessibility.

Our Mission:
To provide students, staff, and the community with a clean, safe, comfortable learning environment, to protect the community's investment in education, as well as follow all state mandated guidelines in Hazardous Communications Standards, Integrated Pest Management, Safety Compliance, Security, Building Construction Codes and over see all Capital Improvements.

All district buildings are provided with operations, maintenance, custodial, and grounds services. We operate and monitor HVAC systems, ensuring comfort and maintaining indoor air quality. Through the use of a computerized maintenance program, all department work orders are submitted, routed, assigned, and their progress monitored online.

Our maintenance staff is in charge of plumbing, electrical, heating and all facets of general repair in 6 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 1 alternative school, the high school, EEEC/Central Office and the Property Services / storage building.

Our custodial staff maintains 10 school campuses with a total of 20 buildings district wide, for a total of over 680,000 square feet.

Our grounds staff is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of our lawns, athletic fields, playgrounds, totaling 100 acres. They are also responsible for plowing, transporting district supplies and providing assistance to other departments when needed.
